I’m usually quite skeptical when it comes to organic products. I’ve tested a lot of them that aren’t anywhere near as good as their more traditional counterparts (deodorants, cosmetics and skin care products, just to name a few). A lot of times the ‘organic’ versions of products just don’t work. But I’ve heard a lot recently about CHI Organic Olive Nutrient Therapy Shampoo, so I thought that I would give it a try and let all of my readers know the results.
I decided to use the shampoo for a week and see if there were any noticeable results, and if so how long they would last if I was to switch back to my regular shampoo. To start off with, the shampoo itself is a little thin and you have to be careful if you start using it as it comes out of the bottle quite fast. If you don’t pay attention, you might accidentally dump out half of the bottle the first time you use it.
The shampoo actually seems to lather up just fine, something that I was a bit surprised at, being that it’s organic. I have to admit that I was really expecting it to do nothing at all as far as lather goes!
It seemed to have good overall cleaning power, which was another surprise for me (can you tell by now that I’m not a fan of most of the organic products that I’ve tried before?). And the shampoo seemed to leave my hair quite clean, but not dry. The natural oils in it seem like they do pretty well at moisturizing your hair, I might even say better then a lot of your standard, over the counter drugstore brands.
Now here’s where we get to one of the issues with this shampoo, the smell. It’s got kind of a bit of an odd smell. I would liken it to the combination of citrus and an earthy smell. I had lots of people smell it to see what most people thought of it. What I quickly found out was that most people either liked it, or hated it. One friend of mine said it smelled like “Oranges and dirt!”. So, that’s something that you’ll have to decide for yourself.
On the positive side, it did well on both thick hair and fine or thin hair alike. It seemed to leave both kinds of my testers hair types both clean and moisturized.
The downsides here are mainly the smell and the price. At up to $23 for a twelve ounce bottle, this stuff’s a bit pricy for shampoo. So, if you like the smell and don’t mind the rather high price tag, go for it.
